This is a great garden on the corner of Maryland and King st. kitty-corner to Sunnyland Elementary school. Lasy year (2010) we grew cabbage, lettuce and a few other crops. The major challenge with this site is the weeds; specifically morning glory. If you go by the site in Spring/early summer this year (2011) you’ll see a healthy stand of winter rye, as well as an area where we are doing mycoremediation with oyster mushrooms.
I St. gardens
We have a series of garden along I St. in the Lettered Streets neighborhood. Utilizing front yards and parking strips, we have successfully transformed a small series of yards into a productive garden and appealing greenspace. Using sheet mulching, rototillers and cover crops, the sod has turned into beautiful soil. If you see gardens we’ll be growing winter squash, brocolli, and some root veggies (not to mention all the great berries and fruits which will start producing this year). Thanks to our neighbors and friends on I St.
J and Iriving Community Garden
The Beth Israel Synagogue allows us to cultivate their land in a community garden, which BUGS helps maintain and organize. There are approximately 10 gardens, a communal table and a food forest area. In 2010 we had to bee hives here, as well as our main garlic crop. This is a great atmosphere and a pleasure helping this community maintain the space. The site is constantly evolving and looking for helping hands.

Great gardens. Looking forward to seeing more this season!!
