BUGS Produce Stand

Opening Today, Thursday September 1st from 4 till 7 PM

Along the Inter-urban trail near Maple and State st.

We are pleased to announce the opening of the first Belligham Urban Garden Syndicate (BUGS) produce stand. With final touches being completed today the produce ‘gazebo’ is a manifestation of collaboration, community support and volunteer labor. Stocked with fresh veggies, fruit, herbs and flowers grown and gleaned from within Bellingham the booth is located on the inter-urban trail between the HUB and Plantas Nativas, just off of State and Maple st. We will be open from 4 Pm till 7 Pm today, and following weeks throughout September and October.

It has been a tribulation season with life and death, poor weather and pressures of economic uncertainty hitting so close to home. None of this would be possible without considerable community support. Local businesses and patrons from; Creative Openings, Altility Art Studio, Plantas Nativas and Oyster Creek Canvas have contributed greatly through personal, material and inspirational support.

However, we hope to see people come by the produce stand, help support BUGS, take home so fresh locally grown produce. The Inter-Urban Trail garden is ripe with collaboration, inspiration and growth. Come check out our amazing new farm stand in its final stage of completion, and help support BUGS as we grow gardening culture here in Bellingham!

Inter-Urban Trail Garden Installation Workparty

Where: Just off of State and Maple st. along the inter-Urban trail between Plantas Nativa and the HUB

When: Saturday May, 14th 10 am—4 pm

Join the Bellingham Urban Garden Syndicate (BUGS), Transition Whatcom, Plantas Nativa, Creative Openings, Altility Art Studios, Positive Negative, the HUB Community Bike Center, and more as we install a beautiful green space right along the inter-urban trail. This Saturday May 14th, we will host a workparty from 10 till 4 pm, just North of the HUB. The installation will consist of a community garden space, a rain garden to help water run-off into the Bay, as well as an edible garden and more. This will be a huge community assest, as well as provide valuable education and demonstration for people looking to do this at their own site. Come help us transform this under-utilized grassy strip into an amazing oasis of community, food and sustainable land use. There will be many projects going all day from sheet mulching, planting, site prep, rain garden installation, and more.

Land access has been granted by Daylight Properties and generous donations from local nurseries and land-scaping companies are making this project possible. This will be a tremendous day to revitalize a unique site along the inter-urban trail, and transform it into a productive healthy landscape. Stop by for a couple hours to lend a hand if that’s all the time you have. Refreshments and tools will be on-site.

Follow-up workparties, rain garden classes and more will follow. Stay tuned for more details. If you have any questions or would like more information about this weekend please contact Nick Spring at nick@bellinghamurbangardens.org or (360)-610-3700.
